The Political Significance of Social Media Activity and Social Networks
Social media is now one of the most widespread media sources. Considering the fact that most of the young adults use social media, it is also one of the most influential types of media in the world. For politics, social media can play a crucial role as well, shaping the opinion of the younger generation.
Joseph Kahne and Benjamin Bowyer researched the two pathways of social media and their influence on politics. They examined the Friendship Driven (FD) and Interest Driven (ID) online activities and their influence on political action. They have found that these two activities indeed affect politics, but they do so in different ways. Their findings proved that the exposure to the social media promotes political activity and highlighted the need to appreciate the significance of the social media in politics.
